In this series of 12 paintings (of which a selection is shown here) I process my reaction and emotions to the terrible tragedy that shocked Norway and my fellow countrymen on July 22. 2011.

On July 22 2011 a madman killed 77 people in Norway, of which 69 were teenagers. Norway is a small democratic country of 5 million people, considered to be very safe. This tragedy shocked the country profoundly and rocked its fundamental feeling of security for the first time since WWII.

As my emotions evolved and got processed painting by painting, the visual expression changed and reflects what I needed to paint at the time in order to exorcise the shock, fear and sadness I felt for my country. By the 12th painting I was done.
